An Ontario family had a strange encounter with a loud and frightening howl in the deep woods of Ontario. Could it be Bigfoot? The sound is intriguing. Join us as CryptoVille investigates!

October 3, 2019 started out as a fairly normal day for the Meekis family. They live near Sioux Lookout which is in northern Ontario, a pretty remote place. On this day, Gino Meekis decided to do some grouse hunting so he and his wife and their very young grandson bundled into the car and headed into the woods.
Later on, Meekis was finished with his hunting so the family headed back along the Vermilion River trail to their car. That’s when they heard the sound. Meekis said he first thought it had to be a moose or a bear. “But then I started thinking of all the animals in the area – I’d heard during my life – and it didn’t match.”

He continued, “At first, I wasn’t scared because it sounded kind of far from where we were. It sounded like it was a kilometer away. So if it started coming, (we had) enough time to get out of there.”
It seems that after that, the creature did start moving. Meekis added, “We could hear it moving … it sounded kind of heavy. But my wife, she got scared … picked up (our grandson) and started walking fast towards the vehicle.”
You can hear the child in the video too. He sounds very young, maybe 2 years old at most. At first he seems to be imitating the call, until his grandmother hushed him.

Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry
What I especially like about this account is that Meekis shared the video with Ontario’s Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry. Their spokesperson, Jolanta Kowalski, sent an email to CTVNews.ca saying, “Our biologists say it could be a larger mammal – for example a wolf – but because of the considerable distance from the recorder there is no way to be certain.”

Ok, a few points here:
- I don’t know a lot about hunting and tracking, or all the sounds animals make, HOWEVER that sounds nothing like a wolf to me. For starters, the amount of lung power needed to make that much noise over that much distance would require a much bigger body. Yes, like a Bigfoot would have.
- The creature was so large they heard it moving around from approximately a kilometer away. I don’t think a wolf would make that much noise.
- Meekis first thought it might be a moose or bear. OK, they are probably big enough to be heard from a kilometer away, maybe not. They probably have enough lung power to make quite a bit of noise, especially the moose. BUT neither of them has the vocal range this creature had to create those sounds.
Listen for yourselves; it’s a little over 2 minutes long.
Commentators have said it sounds like a wolf in a trap. They’re forgetting the family could hear it moving about. Others have accused Meekis of creating a hoax. He responded, “They think there’s a speaker or a recording playing something. I didn’t go out that day to deceive people.” He asked his fellow hunters and friends what they thought it was, and no one could identify it.
Needs More Research
There’s one way to find out what’s there and that’s to have Meekis and his buddies go back out to the area and do some investigating. You know how they say Bigfoots like to be near water, and he and his family were walking back along a trail by the Vermilion River? That would be a great place to start.
So what do you think about this? Do you think it sounds like a wolf, or possibly some big hairy biped covertly wandering around the wilderness of Ontario?
