Earth Groaning – Real, Man-made, or Debunked?

Have you heard about the earth groaning phenomena that’s been occurring around the world recently? From what I read, it reached a peak in January 2012 and there are many videos on YouTube with recordings of it. The sounds are more or less similar and, it has to be said, they ARE eerie.

A Special Spark?

People have speculated it’s a natural phenomena resulting from the changing magnetic field that is supposedly occurring right now. Electricity can make noise, the aurora borealis hums, so it’s feasible that if the magnetic waves of the earth are moving, they could make noise.

HAARP

Another theory is that the noise is a result of the experiments occurring in a project called HAARP. That stands for High Frequency Active Auroral Research Program. Their website states, “The goal of this program is to further advance our knowledge of the physical and electrical properties of the Earth’s ionosphere which can affect our military and civilian communication and navigation systems. The HAARP program operates a world-class ionospheric research facility located in Gakona, Alaska.”

I read about this project and am satisfied that it’s not anything covertly run by the government. In fact, it’s operated by a large group of scientists from universities around the country and they seem to be doing genuine research. I’m going to try to find out if their tests could possibly be causing any strange atmospheric sounds, but even if it is, their research seems to be harmless and done at a minute scale compared to the vast workings of Mother Nature.

Hoaxers

Yet another theory thinks the sounds on the YouTube videos are all hoaxes. They point out that there are usually very few to no other people around at all the times the sounds are heard. That does appear to be true, but I’d also point out that the times that the sounds are heard are very often in the wee hours of the night when far fewer people would be around.

If it’s a hoax, the theorists think it started with a 2011 movie called Red State. The movie plays apocalyptic trumpet sounds, alluding to Biblical horns announcing the approaching Rapture. Sure enough, those trumpet sounds are very similar if not identical to the sounds that appear on many of these earth groaning videos and audio recordings.  It’s been noted that the earth groaning phenomena also seems to have started after this movie was released, reaching a peak in January of 2012.

Elephant Noises?

Furthering the case for hoaxer interference, a video appeared on You Tube that seems to suggest the noises are a hoax either brought on by a talented musician named Wes Muzik, or inspired by him. His credentials include contributing to the soundtrack of the film The Lion King. Wes is also deeply interested in elephants because his African tribe is dedicated to them, or something of that sort. It’s a strange little video and I’m not entirely sure what their point is about Wes, but what I’ve shared with you are just my impressions based on the video! If you want to see it:

After listening to the video mentioned above, I listened to some of the other recordings again, and sure enough, some of them sound like elephant noises that have been tampered with a little by a “sound engineer.” Not saying Wes himself did it, but maybe he inspired someone? Who knows.

The Rapture?

Finally, there is a large group of earth groaning enthusiasts who believe the noise is the Earth’s way of telling us that bad things are about to happen. Bad things happen all the time, they have happened throughout history, so I’m not sure we need strange noises in the sky to tell us that. Some say it’s a portent of the coming Rapture which Evangelical Christians believe in. As a Catholic, I’m not expecting the Rapture, but I will say, if it IS going to happen, I sure hope God’s trumpets sound a whole lot better than these eerie recordings!

Hmmmm …

Where does this leave us? For now, I think almost all of these recordings have been hoaxed. If someone got a video of a group of people all witnessing the sounds and reacting to them, that was also reported on the news by journalists who also witnessed the occurrence, then maybe I’ll be more prone to believe it.

But I’m telling you, if I could get a hold of these hoaxers, I’d burst their little bubbles and no mistake. For those of us who want to get to the truth and find out scientifically if strange phenomena is real or not, they are the dog poop on the sidewalk. How much time do we waste trying to determine if their “evidence” is real or not? They make our whole endeavor a laughing stock in scientific and business circles.  Oh well, there are always going to be juvenile adults who think they’re funny when they actually just look pathetic.

In the meantime, I’m going to try to find a scientist who can address the question of whether HAARP can be responsible for any of the earth groaning noises.

Til the next time!

  1. I heard the sounds myself! This is no hoax! I don’t know what it is but it’s not a hoax…. It happened in Thelma Kentucky in July of 2013, I was sitting in my office talking to two friends when we heard what sounded like many many trumpets all going off at once and it sounded just as if they were right outside the window of my office, it was so loud and abrupt that we all stood up and started looking out the window for the source of the sound. We went and asked the few other people in the building at the time and they did not hear it! It must be a very localized phenomenon, what do you think that could mean? But I think this explains why the people in the videos off in the distance and such do not react as if they hear strange sounds. I know I’m just a random person commenting and I have no proof I’m not lying and not a hoaxer but I beg you to believe what I’m saying. I’m not some loon who believes in alien invaders and has delusions of the end of times. But just as abruptly as it had started it stopped. We checked to see if maybe somebody was doing work on something in the building and there were no such things going on. There are no other buildings around it either, just open fields. I notice Id most if not all the videos the people never tell if they went around to see if other people heard the sounds so maybe this adds something that could explain why others didn’t react but I can never forget the sound and it is the same as in many of those videos.

    • I believe you Josh. That’s a fascinating account to me on a couple levels – I hadn’t heard of any occurrences in Kentucky and also, that’s a fairly recent experience, July of 2013. The other thing I think is interesting is that your building is in the middle of what sounds like a fairly rural area.

What time of day was it? Do you have some way of recording the sound if it ever occurs again?
